The Majlis ash-Shura (Islamic Leadership Council) of Metropolitan New York is an effort to unite the area’s diverse and vibrant Muslim communities in active consultation and representative organization.

Established in February 1989 and constituted the following year, the Majlis ash-Shura organizes with representatives from 50 masaajid (mosques) and Muslim organizations: imams & board presidents, activists & youth directors;  leading women, men and youth of communities across the metropolitan area, developing a platform of ethics, justice and human dignity, and working together to meet the physical, social and spiritual needs of our sisters and brothers around the metropolitan area and beyond.
The Executive Committee is led by the ‘Amir, Imam al-Hajj Talib ‘Abdur-Rashid, Imam of the Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood (Harlem).
The Majlis Ash-Shura is open to all Muslim communities, masaajid and Islamic organizations willing to participate in this project.
